How Do WiFi Hidden Cameras Work?

Do All Wireless Spy Cameras Use WiFi?
“Wireless spy cameras” can actually refer to two different things. The first is a WiFi-enabled camera, like the ones described above. These use WiFi to live stream your video so you can watch your camera feed live, and get motion detection alerts.
The term “wireless spy cameras” could also refer to a device that simply does not have wires (like an AC plug) and run on battery power, like our many battery powered spy cameras. This could encompass both WiFi and Non-WiFi cameras, since both types of cameras are technically considered “wireless”.
Do WiFi Hidden Cameras Need WiFi to Work?
Another question we get asked a lot is if you can use a WiFi camera without WiFi. The answer to this is yes, however, you won’t be able to take advantage of all of the devices features that require WiFi to operate - such as the live streaming and motion alerts.
But if you simply like the design or style of a particular WiFi camera, and want to use it to just record video to a memory card, then it’s perfectly fine to use a WiFi camera without WiFi.
Can Someone Else Access My WiFi Camera?
An obvious concern many people have is if their video feed is secure. After all, no one wants a stranger getting access to their security camera feed, especially inside of their home.
Fortunately, all of our WiFi cameras feature an encrypted video feed that is also password protected. No one will be able to access your video feed without both your Camera ID and your unique password that you set up during the setup process.
Of course, if you would like to share your camera login and password with someone you trust, like a spouse or a significant other, they can simply download the app to their phone, and you can share your login credentials with them, so they’ll be able to access your hidden camera video feed too.
