Overview
When it comes to designing and using covert security devices, one of the biggest things to ensure is that the hidden camera stays…hidden. After all, a hidden camera that isn’t hidden doesn’t really work for it’s intended purpose.
That’s why many of our top selling spy cameras are designed to look like ordinary looking USB wall chargers and AC adapters. Because let’s face it - we all have so many of these in our homes, that no one often gives them a second glance - which makes them perfect for covert security.
Top Uses for USB Charger Spy Cameras
Home Security - One of the top reasons that people use covert security cameras are for protecting their home, apartment, condo, etc. This is because regular security cameras are easy to spot, and easy to damage or steal, destroying valuable evidence.
By using a hidden camera or spy camera for home security, an intruder will likely be too busy to notice that the ordinary looking charger plugged into the wall is actually a live streaming video camera that is documenting their every move.
Nanny Camera for Home - Another common use for USB charger spy cameras is as a nanny cam for home monitoring purposes. Many people have a babysitter or nanny come into their home, but may be wondering how they are treating their children.

This is where hidden cameras come in very handy. They allow you to look in and ensure that your children are being properly cared for. This alleviates any concerns about mistreatment, or can alert you to any activity that you may need to look into.
Granny Cam - Children aren’t the only ones that may need monitoring however. One increasingly popular for USB charger cameras is as “granny cams”, which are cameras designed to ensure that elderly loved ones are either being properly cared for, or are simply doing okay on their own.
By setting up a granny cam for a loved one, you’ll be able to have peace of mind knowing that they are being properly cared for by a nurse or caregiver, as well as know that they are safe and sound if they are living on their own.
Office Security - Another common place that many business owners are utilizing hidden camera technology is at their office or retail store. And in many cases these areas already have traditional security camera systems, so you may wonder why they are supplementing their existing system with hidden cameras.

The reason they are also using spy cameras is to monitor sensitive areas or to investigate theft or issues with employees. Theft is often external (by customers) but can also be internal, such as by an employee or vendor.
Using hidden cameras can help investigate these type of situations where people may not think they are being watched by regular security cameras (such as blind spots in a warehouse).
Pet Camera - One final popular (and fun!) use of USB charger cameras is to monitor your pets. Whether you want to know what your pet is up to on the other side of the house, or if you simply want to see what they’re up to while you’re at work - a hidden camera is a great way to keep an eye on your pet.
Floor-level AC outlets are great places to set up a USB charger camera that allows you to keep an eye on your furry friend. We recommend setting one up by your pet’s favorite resting spot, so you can keep an eye on them while they sleep!
WiFi or Non-WiFi
When shopping for a USB charger camera, one of the first things you’ll need to decide on is whether to get a camera that is WiFi enabled or not.
A WiFi enabled USB charger camera has several benefits. The first being that you can monitor your camera feed live on your smartphone. This is because the camera connects to your home’s WiFi network, allowing you to view real time video. You can also set the camera to send you motion detection alerts - this lets you get notified instantly if your camera detects activity - like a person walking by the camera.

In some situations however, you may not need live video or alerts, or you may simply not have WiFi available in the place you want to monitor, so a non-WiFi Charger Camera may be your only option. Non-WiFi cameras can still give you valuable information though - that information is just slightly delayed.
Expert Tip: Many people choose non-WiFi hidden cameras because they are easy to operate and quick to deploy, especially in areas without WiFi coverage.
Non-WiFi Charger cameras will simply record video to a hidden memory card, which you can later view on your desktop or laptop computer. This would be good for a situation like where something in your house goes missing, you can go back and view the footage to see what happened.
AC Powered Operation
While many of our devices are battery powered hidden cameras, when it comes to wall charger hidden cameras - as you might imagine - they are all AC powered. This means they plug into a wall outlet, a surge protector, an extension cord, etc.
This AC power provides a huge benefit - they can operate 24/7 with no battery life concerns to worry about. So you’ll never have to worry about your device running out of power when you need it most.

USB Charger Spy Camera FAQs
Do USB charger spy cameras need to be AC Powered?
Yes - all USB charger and AC adapter hidden cameras need to be plugged into AC power in order to operate. This can mean they are plugged directly into an AC outlet, or you can plug them into an extension cord or surge protector.
What if my AC outlet doesn’t face the direction I want to monitor?
If your particular AC outlet doesn’t look exactly at the direction you wish to monitor with your camera you have a couple options. The first possibility is to use an extension cord, and plug the charger into the extension cord, and then “aim” it the direction you want to see. This works easier if the camera is on the floor, as opposed to on a counter level outlet like in a kitchen.
Another option is to plug a swivel outlet into your AC outlet, and then plug the wall charger camera into the swivel outlet, and point it the direction you want to see.
If these options don’t work, you may need to look into another style of camera, such as a battery powered device that is more portable so you can aim it exactly where you need to look.
Do USB charger hidden cameras include audio?
Many USB charger cameras do include audio recording. If this is a feature you need to have, be sure to check the specifications tab on the product page, and it will let you know whether the particular charger camera you are looking at includes audio recording or not.
Do I need WiFi for my USB charger hidden camera?
Some USB charger cameras include WiFi while others do not. For example, the HC242 and HC410 are both non-WiFi hidden cameras, while the HC240w and HC415w both need WiFi.
You can actually use WiFi hidden cameras without WiFi, as long as you have a smartphone to set up the cameras with. You don’t need to actually connect them to WiFi, and you can use them to simply record to a memory card - this is known as P2P recording.
